Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley says the Magpies have got a better side to contend for a premiership in 2013 than they did in 2012.

COLLINGWOOD coach Nathan Buckley has taken to social media to defend his club and Brownlow medallist Dane Swan after a newspaper report questioned the star's influence on the player group.
And Pies president Eddie McGuire joined the defence of Swan on radio this morning, declaring there should not be witch-hunt over the serious issue of possible drug use by AFL players.
As Magpies CEO Gary Pert yesterday used the term "volcanic" to describe the behaviour of some players during the off-season, a newspaper report this morning suggested the Magpies should consider dumping Swan, saying he had been a "law unto himself".
Pert was adamant he was talking about players in general, and Buckley, who has previously defended Swan and his relationship with the ball magnet, was clearly riled by the article, with the coach taking to Twitter on Thursday morning to give his view.
"Still waiting for your call Caroline ... not a quote in sight. Don't ever presume to speak on Collingwood's behalf," Buckley's tweet read.
The report said the Pies were big enough to withstand any potential fallout from dumping a player.
McGuire said the report did not give any examples of unlawful behaviour.

"What we don't want to start doing is having a witch-hunt. We don't want to start having the burning at Salem, but we do want to take action to eradicate this issue," McGuire told Triple M.
"People like Caroline today have made a quantum leap from turning this into a police issue if you like, or a sanction issue, this is still a health issue.
"I don't know if there's been any strikes against any players at Collingwood, certainly we don't have any players on three strikes because we'd know about that."

McGuire said Swan, who was pictured in the report, could have been substituted for "a number of players" and urged clubs and the AFL to look into the issue collectively.
He defended chief executive Pert speaking out in The Herald Sun yesterday, which put the issue on the map, saying he did so with the support of the Magpies board.
McGuire said Collingwood would not comment further on the issue.
